Long Tail, Long Chain

The most significant change to a bicycle when converting it to an Xtracycle is adding a longer chain. Because the Xtracycle Kit extends your wheelbase 15", an Xtracycle chain must be extended by 30".

Every Xtracycle kit includes a 30" chain for 6/7/8 speed bikes, which is usually all you need.

If your current chain is stretched, rusty and worn and in need of replacement, we recommend purchasing a full length 86" chain.
If your bike is a 9 speed, we also offer a 9 speed 86" replacement chain.
