Burley Trailer Forged Hitch for quick release and solid axle

Stock status: 5+ in stock

Overview

The newly designed Burley Forged Hitch offers a lightweight design that is easy to install and use with almost any bike. The Forged Hitch is secured in place by the bicycle hub's rear quick-release or nutted axle and will work on most any bike, including full-suspension mountain bikes and bikes with disc brakes. Will not fit socket, Breezer-style dropouts.

We offer the flex connector/strap kit as an option for the Burley Forged Hitch. This kit includes the flex connector, safety strap, the lock pin, and the bolt for connecting the trailer's flex connector to the trailer's hitch arm. Only one flex connector/safety strap kit is needed per trailer, and is necessary when upgrading from the Classic Hitch to the Forged Hitch. You can also get additional hitches to easily switch your trailer between multiple bikes.

Burley recommends that you replace the flex connector every five years. Most 2007 and newer Burley trailers use a square tongue connector while most pre-2007 models use round tongues connectors.

  • Low profile, lightweight design
  • Forged 6061-T6 aluminum
  • Fits quick-release and 9.5mm and 10.5mm nutted axles

Warranty

1 year on fabric parts, 5 years on plastic parts, lifetime of trailer on durable frame parts

This is a great trailer hitch (all I have to compare it to is my old clamp-on, though, so anything would have been great). Solid aluminum. Fit my bike without an issue, but my wife's had a tight area where the aluminum tubes were welded to the bracket. I took a grinder and trimmed down the sides enough for it to fit. In my opinion, it's built so solid that you could likely grind 2/3 of it away before endangering the hookup.

Great product and excellent customer service. There was a slight mix-up in the shipping and the problem was solved immediately after I brought it to their attention. Easy to install and easy to use. We have one on each of our bikes so we can pull the trailer with any bike.

I have a Bell Bike trailer and was constantly having problems with the clamp hitch falling off. I ordered this along with the Square Flex Connector and Safety Strap Kit. I received it within 3 days and it was very easy to install and it worked great. Nice to know I can get on and go!!!

I bought this along with the Flex connector for sqaure tongue to upgrade my Nashbar trailer. My trailer had a spring flex piece with a clamp on the end, meant to connect to the chainstay. It worked, but not so well since I have a square chainstay and disc brakes (claim was not compatible with discs [very tight clearence]). This conversion works great. It's much quicker to connect and disconnect now. I also just ordered the nutted-axle version of this for my wifes bike, so we can swap the trailer around. BikeTrailerShop had the best price I could find for these items.

@Andy_in_Germany I suspect Eurobike would be even better for electric cargo bikes. I'm reminded I need to publish your #Xtracycle post.

Electric cargo bike on the brain. Maybe just a regular electric bike. Looking forward to Interbike to test ride what's new.
